College Memories from NIT Durgapur

This topic instantly takes me back to one of the most cherished phases of my life. It’s like embarking on another journey into the past, brimming with energy and excitement to relive my beautiful memories.

When I first stepped into NIT Durgapur, I had no idea what my college life would hold. Initially, I was simply getting acquainted with the campus and the people. But as time passed, I realized college was far more engaging and thrilling than I had imagined. The second semester turned out to be the most eventful—filled with technical fests, cultural celebrations like Aarohan and Recs, freshers’ and farewell parties, and so much more. I was fortunate to join the Electrical and Electronics department in this semester.

Most Nepalese students—11 out of 13—were in the ECE department, and we had quite an influence on student decisions. We enjoyed countless moments of fun and laughter, though I sometimes struggled to keep up with the curriculum. Alongside lectures, we faced tests, vivas, semester exams, and seminars. I can’t forget the inter-hall football match—a nail-biting game between M.Tech and our 2nd-year ECE team. Thankfully, we won!

Academically, the third year was the most rewarding. Many ECE students received job offers, and I was thrilled to be placed at Wipro—a dream come true. But along with achievements came our fair share of mischief. Skipping classes became a habit, especially system programming lectures, which we avoided at least ten times. The final exam made us pay dearly for that choice.

The final year, as expected, was the peak of enjoyment—minimal lectures and labs, maximum fun and parties. Well, except for MAJI’s lessons, which I never looked forward to.

Over four years, I met many teachers, but AKD Sir remains unforgettable for his dedication and hard work. Outside academics, life had its own highlights: jhoops for affordable meals, SAM for drinks, endless trips to City Center, Benacity, inter-NIT football tournaments, Holi and Tihar celebrations at NIT, my two months as MESS secretary in Hall 5, Nepal family picnics, chai breaks at Bihari Mode, Big Bazaar visits, Troika boat racing, and evenings when the melodic fountains and colorful lights transformed NIT Durgapur into a magical fairyland. The lush garden was like heaven on earth, especially when illuminated at night, with dancing fountains creating an enchanting atmosphere.

College life wasn’t just about fun—it taught me responsibility, resilience, and independence. It introduced me to people from diverse cultural and intellectual backgrounds, broadening my perspectives. NIT gave me the freedom to make my own choices—whether it was academic, social, or just deciding to skip a lecture etc.

Those four years taught me hard work, honesty, discipline, and dedication. My time at NIT was a vibrant, unforgettable chapter of my life, filled with waves of memories too numerous to capture in words. NIT Durgapur wasn’t just my college—it was my home, my playground, my best teacher. And those years will always be the best part of my life.
